Dear Customers & other Belgian Beer Lovers,
As we're sure you all know, the United States is in the early stages of a trade war. We hope it will be a short one.
As things stand, the United States plans to levy a new, minimum 20% tariff on imports from the European Union. This includes our beloved Belgian beers, as well as beers from other countries that we sell. (Tariffs on aluminum will affect domestic beers that we sell – but that’s another story.) As of April 9, 2025, there is a 90-day pause on this 20% tariff. However, it is our understanding that there is an immediate base 10% tariff on ALL goods from ALL other countries.
These tariffs are new taxes charged by the United States. Importers must pay these taxes in order to bring products here. A 20% tariff on beer will increase the cost by a minimum of 20%. Because the profit margin on beer is thin, retailers will need to pass these costs along to the consumer.
Depending on your needs, now might be the time to stock up. The good news is that beer which is already stateside will not be affected by tariffs. And it will take time for tariffs to work their way through the supply chain. In the meantime, we are doing our best to stock up. We suggest you do the same.
If or when these tariffs reach us, we have a plan. We will not immediately raise our retail prices. Instead, we will add a surcharge. This way, we can adjust or eliminate the surcharge as the trade war progresses.
In the meantime, there is NO tariff surcharge on orders placed now. As soon as a surcharge is necessary, we will let you know.
Thank you for your consideration.
Cheers!
