Great Lakes Chillwave Double IPA (ABV 9.4%) is inspired by Lake Erie’s dedicated (and often chilly!) surf community. This very highly rated Double IPA is a heartier, hoppier version of the traditional IPA with a higher alcohol content. Chillwave pours a dark and slightly cloudy copper color, with an aroma dominated by honey malts mixed with hoppy elements of citrus, mango and pine. Flavor is intense and hop-forward with an IBU rating of 80, and more of the complex resin and tropical fruit notes that are apparent in the aroma. The brew is smooth and well-balanced, with fine effervescence and an end note of flavorful hops that lingers. 12 oz. cans.
Brewery Information:
Founded in 1988 by brothers Patrick and Daniel Conway in Cleveland’s Ohio City, Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC) is Ohio’s first brewpub and microbrewery. Since then, Great Lakes has been a driving force behind the revival of the Ohio City neighborhood and the craft beer industry in Northeast Ohio. Independent for over 30 years and employee owned since 2018, it now serves 14 states and Washington. In 2023, it was ranked as the 17th largest craft brewery in the USA. While production has expanded to adjacent and nearby properties, the brewpub and restaurant remain in their original locations.
The brewpub and restaurant feature a Tiger Mahogany bar from the 1860s, a Beer Cellar and the Rockefeller Room, named after Standard Oil founder and Clevelander John D. Rockefeller, who was thought to have worked in the building. There is a gift shop which sells beer, along with apparel and barware. Brewery tours are available on weekends.
