CELEBRATE ST. ARNOLDUS DAY ON JULY 18TH
AND HONOR THE PATRON SAINT OF BELGIAN BEER
This July 18th, join BelgianStyleAles.com and Artisanal Imports in celebrating St. Arnoldus, the patron saint of hop-pickers, beer brewers and, of course, Belgian beer.
Facing an epidemic, St. Arnoldus of Soissons (ca 1040-1087) advised the local people to drink his monastery's beers instead of water. Because beer is sterilized in production and water was the source of the sickness, many people survived by following his advice. To celebrate, Belgians toast St. Arnoldus every July 18th and, in Brussels, he is honored with a parade on the "Day of Beer".
Here in the USA, we can toast St. Arnoldus with Belgian beers imported to the USA by Artisanal Imports, including beers from Brasserie Minne, BOM (Belgian Original Malt), de Proef, Karmeliet, Kwak, La Trappe, Omer Vander Ghinste, Prearis and St. Feuillien. If you can't find them in your local store, bar or restaurant, visit BelgianStyleAles.com and they will ship to your door.
July is a hot month for Belgian beer! St. Arnoldus Day conveniently occurs during Belgian Beer Week (July 13th to 22nd, 2018) and Belgian Independence Day on July 21st. Belgian beer fans certainly have plenty of reasons to raise their glasses!
Located in Cleveland, Ohio, BelgianStyleAles.com ships the widest selection of Belgian, Trappist and monastery-brewed ales to customers across the USA. SPENCER TRAPPIST BREWERY RELEASES GRAPEFRUIT IPA
The Trappist monks at Spencer Brewery take a turn to the bitter! Spencer Grapefruit IPA is the second of Spencer Brewery's Fruit Series and follows their Peach Saison which was released earlier this year. Ora et Labora ("Pray and Work") are central to the life of the monks who belong to the Cistercian Order of Strict Observance -- otherwise known as "Trappists". Luckily for all of us, this prayerful attention is also central to their long-standing brewing tradition.
Brewed with grapefruit and Citra hops, Spencer Grapefruit IPA (ABV 6.5%) pours a hazy orange with a ruby tinge. The aroma is sweet and malty, with a bracing accent of bitter citrus from both the grapefruit and the hops. The taste is tart and clean, moderately sweet with a touch of grapefruit and a moderately bitter finish.
Founded and operated by the Trappist monks of St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, Spencer Brewery is the only Trappist brewery located outside of Europe. A beer's "Trappist" designation refers not to its style, but to the fact that it is produced by Trappist monks and is sanctioned by the International Trappist Association. Of all the breweries in the world, only eleven may carry the "Authentic Trappist Product" logo. BelgianStyleAles.com offers beers from nine out of the eleven Trappist breweries: Achel, Chimay, La Trappe, Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle, Stift Engelszell, Spencer and Tre Fontane.

SPENCER TRAPPIST BREWERY LAUNCHES FRUIT SERIES
The monks at Spencer Brewery are getting peachy! Spencer Trappist Peach Saison marks the launch of the brewery's new Fruit Series and is the first Saison brewed commercially by a Trappist brewery. BelgianStyleAles.com just received their first shipment and are ready to ship this new beer (along with all of Spencer's other offerings) to you!
Spencer's Trappist Peach Saison (ABV 4.3%) is a farmhouse fruit ale and is the 8th beer style that Spencer has made commercially available. This fruit series nicely complements the monastery's other product line, Trappist Preserves, which the monks at St. Joseph's Abbey have been making and selling since 1953. Spencer Brewery Director Fr. Isaac tells of the excitement the brothers had about the two businesses working together. "Trappist Preserves Quality Control Manager Br. Francis was delighted to assist us in the selection of the peaches to use in our Trappist Peach Saison."
Opening in 2013, Spencer is the only Trappist brewery located outside of Europe. A beer's "Trappist" designation refers not to its style, but to the fact that it is produced and sanctioned by the International Trappist Association. Of all the breweries in the world, only eleven may carry the "Authentic Trappist Product" logo. ORVAL DAY 2018 EXPANDS TO ONLINE RETAIL SALES
Saturday March 24, 2018 is Orval Day (#OrvalDay) -- a day when beer lovers all over the USA gather at bars, restaurants or in the comfort of their homes and raise a toast with Orval - a classic Trappist ale brewed in Belgium. In its third year, Orval Day is now teaming up with online beer shipper BelgianStyleAles.com.
For those who can't find in Orval in their local store or bar, BelgianStyleAles.com ships to most addresses in the USA. Genuine chalices are also available from BelgianStyleAles.com so that customers can serve their Orval in the proper glassware for the full experience! BelgianStyleAles.com will also have special offers and giveaways throughout the entire month of March.
From importer Merchant du Vin: "Orval Day is a once-a-year celebration of one of the world's most iconic beers. Each year devotees of Orval Trappist Ale -- and even some folks who haven't tried it yet -- convene upon their favorite bar, raising a chalice to this beer that has changed the craft beer landscape."
Merchant du Vin, the importer responsible for bringing Orval into the USA is once again sponsoring this great event. And, for every bottle purchased during the month of March, Merchant du Vin will donate 50 cents to their charity partner, MAP International (MAP.org), which provides lifesaving medicines to people in need around the world.
Orval Trappist Ale is the one beer brewed at Notre Dame d'Orval Monastery in Belgium -- one of only 11 breweries worldwide approved for the esteemed Authentic Trappist® Product logo. Orval is steeped in history and is now a favorite amongst American beer aficionados. Its unique flavor is largely derived from the yeast strain brettanomyces, the water, and the particular hops varieties and has inspired many brewers around the world.
BelgianStyleAles.com is proud to join Merchant du Vin and Heidelberg Distributing Co. by participating in Orval Day 2018 in support both Notre Dame d'Orval Monastery and MAP International. For more information about the event: http://merchantduvin.com/orvalday.php

FIRST TRAPPIST ALE FROM ITALY NOW AVAILABLE FOR RETAIL SALES ONLINE
Italy's first Trappist Ale, Tre Fontane Triple (Birra Trappista Italiana) is now available on BelgianStyleAles.com and shipping to retail customers across the USA. Of all the breweries in the world, only eleven may carry the "Authentic Trappist Product" logo. With the addition of Tre Fontane, BelgianStyleAles.com now offers beers from nine of these breweries: Achel, Chimay, La Trappe, Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle, Stift Engelszell, Spencer and Tre Fontane.
With Tre Fontane Triple, the brewers at the Abbey of Tre Fontane in Rome have captured history in a bottle, using eucalyptus from trees planted around the Abbey in the late 1800s to create a unique beer. With an ABV of 8.5%, a yellow pour with a slight tint of orange color, this Triple delights as hints of the eucalyptus come through in this nicely balanced beer.
"We are proud to work with industry partners Global Beer Network and Premium Beverage Supply to make this newly certified Trappist ale available online." says BelgianStyleAles.com owner and founder, Will Keller. "Often Belgian and Trappist ales are unavailable in many markets. BelgianStyleAles.com is changing that."

FROM GARDENS TO BREWS: A HORTICULTURIST SHARES HER LOVE OF BEER
Careers paths are often not straight and sometime full of coincidences. What led Jody Lathwell from her training as a horticulturist in the Philadelphia area to marketing Belgian beer in Cleveland is one of those stories.
After Ms. Lathwell earned a degree in literature from Swarthmore College, she trained to be a professional gardener at the famed Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. This led to jobs at other wonderful locations, including the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston and Wave Hill in New York City. Upon moving to the Cleveland area in 1999, her focus shifted from public gardening to the private sector as well as farming. Four years of managing The Tremont Farmers' Market found her in the center of an amazing local food movement. She then took the plunge and created her own small business, Ripple Horticulture.
Big changes in her personal life - including her 9-year old son's successful fight with leukemia - led to big changes in her career. She was hired as Warehouse Manager for MonasteryGreetings.com. Founded in 1999, it is the largest online seller of products from abbeys, convents, monasteries and hermitages. Strong customer interest in its line of Trappist ales spurred the development of BelgianStyleAles.com, now the USA's largest online seller devoted exclusively to Belgian ales.
BelgianStyleAles.com was a surprise to Ms. Lathwell, but the surprise for business owner Will Keller was that she already knew quite a lot about Belgian beers, having fallen in love with them 6 years prior. She now has a chance to share this love of Belgian beer in her marketing role through social media, events and outreach to brewers, importers and distributors in order to grow inventory and to provide customers with an even greater selection.
"Working for BelgianStyleAles.com has deepened my appreciation for the rich and varied history of brewing beer in Belgium. The delight is that I am just at the beginning of this journey; there is a lifetime of discovery and beer tasting ahead of me!" (1 of 2)
You can reach Jody Lathwell and share your love of Belgian beer (and gardening) at Shipping@BelgianStyleAles.com.
