Oud Beersel 2019 Foeder 21 (ABV 6.5%) is a traditional Lambic beer produced according to an authentic method that is under European protection. Made with only water, barley malt, wheat, and hops, Oude Geuze is a blend of spontaneously fermented lambic from different years aged on wooden barrels.
During a prolonged maturation of almost four years, the Lambic on Foeder 21 went through a madeirisation process. This Lambic is blended with Lambics of two other foeders of the same origin, all used for white wine in the past, creates a unique tasting experience.
Golden yellow in color, the flavor combines a pleasant bitterness with a sour, yet smooth character - refreshing and complex.
Bottled in 2019. May be cellared for 20 years with subtle taste evolution. Best before 2/15/2039.
Ratebeer.com rating: 98 (out of 100) 12.7 oz corked bottle.
Brewery Information:
Oud Beersel Brewery, located near Brussels in the town of Beersel, is one of the last remaining authentic lambic breweries in Belgium. Founded in 1882 by Henri Vandervelden, the small brewery remained family-owned for four generations until 2002, when financial woes forced operations to cease, and the brewery all but closed.
In 2005, fearing the brewery's unique artisanal lambics could be lost forever, friends Gert Christiaens & Roland De Bus took a chance and reopened the business and, with the help of Frank Boon, owner of the Boon Brewery (another lambic producer), relaunched the Oud Beersel line to great success.
Today, Oud Beersel Brewery offers a number of award winning ales & lambics for distribution worldwide.
