Gouden Carolus Gift Set includes four 11.2 oz bottles: two each of Gouden Carolus Tripel and Gouden Carolus Classic, plus a genuine Gouden Carolus glass.

Gouden Carolus Tripel from the Het Anker Brewery (abv 9%) is a Belgian blond special ale brewed with pale malts. Golden yellow and slightly hazy, it offers aromas of Belgian yeast, citrus, and spice. The flavor is malty and full-bodied, and with its fine balance of hops, it's a crisp and refreshing quaff.

Gouden Carolus Classic (ABV 8.5%) from the Het Anker Brewery in Mechelen has as its inspiration "den Mechelschen Bruynen", the brown ale brewed in the city in the time of Emperor Charles V. Brewed with caramel malts, aromatic malts, and Belgian hops, it pours a slightly cloudy, deep ruby brown with a beige one-finger head. Aromas of raisins, plums, toffee and caramel are prominent. The taste is complex, with dark fruit, brown sugar and port complemented with touches of orange and passion fruit. Finishes dry and refreshing.

Handsome Gouden Carolus glass has gilt rim and logo; approximately 6-14" high x 3-1/2" in diameter at rim. 25 cl fill line is marked.

NOTE: In order to ship gift sets safely, we disassemble (or partially disassemble) them. All components (including the box and glassware) are shipped.

Brewery Information:

Located in the town of Mechelen in the Flanders region of Belgium, the Het Anker Brewery was founded in 1872 when Louis Van Breedam purchased the site of what had once been a brewery and hospice run by a community of Beguine nuns. He modernized the facility – it became one of the first steam powered breweries of the time – and his heirs would later greatly expand its influence.

By the 1980s, like many family owned breweries of the time, Het Anker found it difficult to compete with large commercial breweries, and entered into partnership deals which never succeeded as intended.

In the late 1990s, Het Anker, helmed by a fifth generation of the Van Breedam family, became independent again, and both focused and diversified its business. Today, the flourishing brewery includes both a restaurant and a hotel while producing a dozen or more ales exported around the world.

All Belgium beers are fantastic and this one does not disappoint. The glass was classic and a pleasure to drink from . I like it so much that I gave one to my best friend for Christmas.
