Blaugies Blidegarian Imperial Stout (ABV 9%) is made with malt, spelt, hops, yeast, and water, to which a little coffee is added at the end of the boiling process to bring out the aromas of the roasted malts. 'Blidegarian' is a term for the inhabitants of Blaugies.
Blidegarian pours very dark reddish brown with a large, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. The aroma is malty and roasty, and the taste is slightly fruity, with hints of dark chocolate and coffee. The finish is moderately dry and bitter. 12.7 oz (corked) bottle.
Brewery Information:
Brasserie de Blaugies was founded in 1987 by married schoolteachers Marie-Noëlle Pourtois and Pierre-Alex Carlier, who are adventurous in recreating traditional farmhouse beer styles. Their tiny brewery is built into the garage of a comfortable farmhouse, and is operated by Pourtois, Carlier, and their two sons. Their output is small, but so well-crafted that it's highly regarded among connoisseurs of fine Belgian Ales.
