Brewed by: Brasserie de Blaugies/Hill Farmstead
Country: Belgium
Style: Saison

ABV (Alcohol by Volume): 6.0%
Ratebeer.com rating: 97
BeerAdvocate.com rating: 88

La Vermontoise (ABV 6.0%) is the result of a collaboration between Brasserie de Blaugies and Vermont's Hill Farmstead Brewery. it is based on Blaugies' d'Epautre, which uses spelt (epautre) and barley malt in the mash and brewed with Amarillo hops, Pouring a hazy gold with a huge, cloudlike white head, the nose is grassy, peppery, and honeyed, with a hint of citrus from the hops. Taste is toasty, dry, and refreshing, with prickly carbonation. The hops are apparent more for their orange and pine notes than for any bitterness. Ratebeer.com rating: 97 (out of 100!) 12.7 oz (corked) bottle.

Brewery Information:

Brasserie de Blaugies was founded in 1987 by married schoolteachers Marie-Noëlle Pourtois and Pierre-Alex Carlier, who are adventurous in recreating traditional farmhouse beer styles. Their tiny brewery is built into the garage of a comfortable farmhouse, and is operated by Pourtois, Carlier, and their two sons. Their output is small, but so well-crafted that it's highly regarded among connoisseurs of fine Belgian Ales.
