Boerenerf Oude Gueuze (ABV 7%) is a traditional blend of young and old lambics. “It (p)ours a cloudy, golden amber coloration with a small, fizzy head. Smells of doughy malt and fruity, slightly spicy esters, with notes of green apple, pear and apricot and pepper, as well as hints of wet hay, funk and oak. Taste is an excellent balance of doughy malt, fruity and spicy esters, with notes of tart green apple, sweet pear and apricot, acidic gooseberry, zesty citrus and lighter clove and white pepper, as well as some wet hay and a subtle, moldy, mushroomy funkiness and hints of musty oak. Finishes with a medium tartness and some fruity, slightly spicy esters, funk and oak lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.” As described by Snowcrash000 from Germany (May 17, 2024)
“I was very curious to try this Gueuze from a totally new-to-me brewery and really enjoyed it a lot. It's perhaps a bit lighter and not quite as tart, funky and complex as other Gueuzes I've had, but makes up for that with some very expressive, fruity esters and great drinkability. It still has that funk and oak as well, but it's a bit more subtle, making this a great introduction to the style, that is rather well-balanced in its own way as well. Overall, this makes for a very enjoyable example of the style that is not that complex, but well-balanced, with a vibrant, zesty tartness, expressive esters and subtle notes of funk and oak.” As reviewed by Snowcrash000 from Germany (May 17, 2024)

Brewery Information:
The story of Boerenerf begins at Sollenberg, an ancient hamlet that traces its origins back to the 15th century. At that time, there were only two farms, an inn, a watermill and a brewery. Brewing began in 1864, during the rise of Gueuze in the 19th century. For four generations and over a period of 100 years, lambic beer was brewed at Sollenberg.
The decline of Gueuze (1960-1990) marked a period when many old breweries were closed – including Sollenberg. However, the recent worldwide interest in authentic Gueuze brewing and blending breathed new life into the style. Fortunately, many artifacts were saved, including old glasses, bottles and crates, preserving the heritage of both brewers and farmers.
Branded as Boerenerf, it is now a blending facility and receives lambic wort from 5 different lambic brewers: 3 Fonteinen, De Troch, Lindemans, Den Herberg and Angerik. In 2021, their first release sourced only ingredients sourced from the Zenne Valley and Pajottenland. Boerenerf's ambition remains to work as locally and organically as possible.
