Abbey Ale (ABV 8.2%) was Brewery Ommegang’s first beer and is styled after Dubbels produced by Trappist monks in Belgium. This full-bodied ale pours a deep burgundy with a fluffy head and enchanting aromas. Rich, fruity flavors and hints of honey, caramel and toffee linger before giving way to a long, dry finish. Brewed with Belgian specialty malts and a variety of spices, it pairs well with roasted meats, pâtés and terrines, and soft cheeses. Suitable for cellaring, Abbey Ale develops wonderful caramel, fig, and currant notes with age. 12-oz. bottle.
Brewery Information:
Brewery Ommegang was founded in 1997 in Cooperstown, New York, by the Belgian brewing company Duvel Moortgat. The brewery was established with a focus on creating Belgian-inspired ales and using Belgian brewing traditions, with the goal of introducing more complex, flavorful beers to the American craft beer market. Ommegang has become well-known for its unique blend of Belgian brewing techniques and American innovation, producing a wide range of highly regarded and award-winning beers.
The brewery’s name, Ommegang, is derived from an old Dutch term meaning "around the corner" or "around the bend," referencing the company’s heritage and the surrounding countryside of Cooperstown, which is rich in history and natural beauty.
