Oak-Aged Belgian Lambic with Lingonberries

Brewed by: Gueuzerie Tilquin
Country: Belgium
Style: Lambic

ABV (Alcohol by Volume): 6.5%
Ratebeer.com rating: not rated
BeerAdvocate.com rating: 96

Tilquin Oude Airelle Sauvage à L'ancienne (ABV 6.5%) is a spontaneously fermented beer brewed with 125 g of wild lingonberries per liter of lambic. It is unfiltered, unpasteurized and refermented in the bottle for at least 6 months.

As reviewed on BeerAdvocate.com by SNOWCRASH000 from Germany: “This is one of the funkiest, sour Lambics I've had in a while and I'm loving it. The lingonberries add their own tartness and bitterness to the mix here, while the pronounced, musty, cheesy funk, distinct, tannic oakiness and hints of balsamic vinegar really leave a strong impression without this feeling too astringent or overly sour and vinegary. Additional fruity esters still make themselves known, with hints of freshly mown, wet grass and floral rosewater coming through as well. . . (A) particularly radiant example of the style with a vibrant, complex and well-balanced flavor profile.”

Can be cellared up to 10 years from bottling date. 12.7 oz. bottle.

Brewery Information:

Tilquin (or Gueuzerie Tilquin) is a Belgian lambic beer blendery based in Bierghes, Brussels, founded in 2009 by Pierre Tilquin, a bioengineer and holder of a PhD in statistical genetics. Tilquin is the only lambic blendery in the mainly French-speaking, southern region of Wallonia. In addition, Tilquin is the only blendery that is allowed to blend one, two, and three-year-old lambics with wort acquired from Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon breweries.

Freshly brewed worts are purchased from different producers in the region (Payottenland and Brussels) and pumped in oak barrels for fermentation and ripening for 1, 2 or 3 years. The lambics are then blended, bottled and refermented for at least 6 months.

Gueuzerie Tilquin is a member of the High Council for Artisanal Lambic beers (HORAL) since 2012.
