Tilquin Oude Gueuze à l’Ancienne (ABV 7%) is a spontaneously fermented beer, produced from the blending of 1, 2 and 3 year-old lambics from worts brewed by Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon breweries. It is unfiltered, unpasteurized and refermented in the bottle for at least 6 months.
As reviewed on BeerAdvocate.com by DCOTOM from Iowa: “Clear golden-colored pour, with not much of a head to speak of. The world-class origins of this gueuze hint as to what's coming when you pop the cork. Barnyard funk, notes of herbal and wet grasses, tart fruit (white grape, apple), light tannins, moderate bitterness, and a crisp and dry finish. I could see this as an excellent table beer, but it is an incredible stand-alone sipper as well. . . Overall, world class all the way.”
Can be cellared up to 10 years from bottling date. 12.7 oz. bottle.
Brewery Information:
Tilquin (or Gueuzerie Tilquin) is a Belgian lambic beer blendery based in Bierghes, Brussels, founded in 2009 by Pierre Tilquin, a bioengineer and holder of a PhD in statistical genetics. Tilquin is the only lambic blendery in the mainly French-speaking, southern region of Wallonia. In addition, Tilquin is the only blendery that is allowed to blend one, two, and three-year-old lambics with wort acquired from Boon, Lindemans, Girardin and Cantillon breweries.
Freshly brewed worts are purchased from different producers in the region (Payottenland and Brussels) and pumped in oak barrels for fermentation and ripening for 1, 2 or 3 years. The lambics are then blended, bottled and refermented for at least 6 months.
Gueuzerie Tilquin is a member of the High Council for Artisanal Lambic beers (HORAL) since 2012.
