Red ‘N’ Black Porter is named after a song on the Iron Maiden album, “The Book of Souls.” It is a dark and deceptively delicious porter beer that is made with a blend of chocolate and crystal malts to give the beer a full-bodied feel. The special Robinson’s yeast rounds out the beer with a hint of licorice and honey for a warm and inviting experience.  It uses Venture malt and Goldings, Cascade and Styrian Golding hops. The recipe takes its inspiration from a very early Robinsons recipe first brewed in the 1850’s. This limited-edition beer pays homage to that time when porter beers were gaining in popularity; some would say the earliest days of craft beer. The label is designed by lead Iron Maiden vocalist, Bruce Dickinson and Robinson Brewery’s head brewer, Martyn Weeks.

Brewery Information:

The story of Robinsons is one that stretches back over 185 years, from humble beginnings to becoming one of the UK’s largest independent family brewers with around 250 pubs across the northwest and Wales.

It all started with the purchase of the Unicorn pub in Stockport in 1838 by William Robinson.  In 1848 William moved and left his son, George, to run the pub.  George started brewing the first Robinsons ale.  In 1859, the other son, Frederic, took over the pub and bought a warehouse so they could expand production.    In 1943 the 4th generation started expanding into Wales with the purchase of the Black Lion.  William’s great grandson, John, was knighted in 1958 for political and public service. Business continued to grow so a new packaging center was opened in Bredbury in 1975.  In 2003 the 6th generation started taking over the company, opening a new brew center in 2010 and starting worldwide distribution in 2011.

In 2013, Robinsons teamed up with Iron Maiden to produce Trooper beer.  Trooper now has 2 seasonal beers as well as the year-round Trooper ESB.
